What’s the scar like with liposculpture?
Normally, small incisions of less than 5 mm are made and they disappear almost entirely after three months. Another precaution that is to me taken is that of making the incisions in strategic places (folds, creases), so that they can be easily concealed.
Currently, thanks to ultrasound and/or laser, there is no need to make big incisions.
When will I see final results?
All surgeries comprise a deswelling phase, which may vary in duration. During the first fortnight after the operation, the patient may not see the results entirely. After this period, deswelling in the area begins and, after three months, we can start to see an excellent result. We recommend postoperative therapies (lymphatic drainage and/or exercises) aimed at shaping and reducing tissue inflammation. Results cannot be considered as final before the sixth months after surgery.
When can I have a second liposculpture?
Tissues are sore immediately after surgery. It is recommended that a second procedure is performed after three months. Those areas that were not affected can be lipoaspirated a month after the previous intervention.
What type of anesthesia is applied?
We can perform the surgery under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. In those cases of combined surgeries, general anesthesia is preferred.
How long does it take?
This will depend on the areas to be treated. It may take between one and three hours, on average.
How long will I be confined?
Normally, this is an out-patient surgery. If performed in combination with another major surgery, it is recommended that the patient remain hospitalized.
And if I have children after the operation…
Results can be preserved after pregnancy, provided that your weight is controlled by a specialist. If you do not develop flaccidity or stretch marks, the shape obtained with liposculpture is maintained.
Is the postoperative period painful?
Generally, it is not. You can reduce pain with common painkillers such as acetaminophen. Your treating doctor will surely give you a right prescription.
Is lipoaspiration dangerous?
Very rarely does lipoaspiration entail problems. The danger is neither higher nor lower than with other surgeries, provided that it is performed in compliance with the applicable technical standards. We have to be very careful not to extract large volumes of fat. As a pre-established criterion at the international level by plastic surgeons: it is recommended not to remove more five to seven percent of the patient’s weight. Presently, in surgeries involving the removal of large volumes of fat, a self-donation of blood is recommended.
When is the self-donation due to take place?
A self-donation does not mean that you are going to receive someone else’s blood. It consists in extracting a small quantity of blood from the patient, preferably on the third day before surgery, as the red blood cells then withdrawn will have been replaced by the body after three days. This blood, which is your own, is kept in the blood bank at the clinic and is re-injected into your body in the immediate period after surgery. This way, your recovery will be faster and you will not suffer any imbalance in the volume of blood, apart from avoiding the risk of contagious diseases, since it will be your blood.
