Blepharoplasty

(Eyelid surgery, eyelid reshaping, excess skin and fat removal)

What does ‘blepharoplasty’ mean?

Blepharoplasty comes from the Greek words blépharon,, which means ‘eyelid’, and plástikos, , which means "capable of being molded"

What does it consist in?

A blepharoplasty is any procedure aimed at modifying or giving appearance to a person’s eyes. It can be used to remove the bags that form around the eyes, the protrusion of these bags and skin flaccidity around the eyes, as it happens in a number of cases where there is slowing of the eyelid movement.

Can I change the shape of my eyes if I undergo this surgery? Can I change my Asian eyes?

Definitely yes. In some instances where eyes do not have a well-defined eyelid crease, like in the case of Asian eyes (Chinese, Japanese, etc.), we can define that crease.

How old should I be to undergo an eyelid surgery?

This is variable. Today, we see young people who already exhibit evidence of eyelid bags in their twenties or thirties. In these cases, without leaving a scar, we can remove the bags.
In children with functional problems, the surgery is performed at an early age. With aesthetic purposes, like in the case of Asian eyes, it can also be perfumed at an early age.

Eyelid using modern techniques
(Transconjuntival blepharoplasty)

What type of anesthesia will be used during the procedure?

This surgery can be performed under local anesthesia. However, in some cases, there is need to use general anesthesia, particularly in those patients whose surgery is being combined with another surgical procedure.

Will the blepharoplasty leave a scar?

Currently, a blepharoplasty is carried out with the least possible skin damage. We try to leave an almost imperceptible scar.

What is a blepharoplasty transconjuntival?

A transconjuntival blepharoplasty is a modern procedure consisting basically in the removal of the fat accumulated underneath the eyelids by making an incision in the inside of the eyelid. This way, no visible mark is left. This is the choice procedure to perform this surgery on men.

Is there any complication with blepharoplasty?

  • In the first place, a visible scar (although modern techniques allow today not to leave a scar)
  • Change in the anatomy of the eye (more rounded, slanting, deep-set)
  • Hematomas, particularly during the short-term postoperative period. In general, they will disappear in approximately three days.
  • Fallen or flaccid eyelids and dry eyes.

All these complications can be avoided is you trust your surgery to expert hands. It is very important that you undergo surgery with qualified, skilled surgeons. Do not save on your body or your life.

In how many days will the stitches be removed, if necessary?

The stitches will be removed after the fourth or fifth day of the postoperative period.
