Résumé of Dr. Billy Spence:

In September 2009, in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, Dr. Spence was paid tribute to as the Best Plastic Surgeon of Venezuela by the international organization IOCIM.

The Prize to the Medical by Achievement for a Better Life was awarded in 2009 to Dr. Spence on the grounds of his impeccable work, professional ethos and good practices, all of which aims at generating change towards new habits for a better life.

Along his studies and training, he received diverse acknowledgements for his excellent academic performance..

Dr. Spence graduated as a Doctor of Medicine from the Illustrious University "Lisandro Alvarado" of Barquisimeto, in the state of Lara.

Upon completing his residency in General Surgery, he went on to specialize in Restorative and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in the Clínica Fluminense de Cirugia Plástica of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he graduated with honors.

He had the fortune of following training with Professors Ronaldo Pontes and Liacyr Ribeiro, who have developed the most advanced techniques in plastic surgery and are internationally recognized as the fathers of modern plastic surgery. From them, he learned the dedication, quality and personality that characterize them.

During his specialization course, he work for different centers of international reference in the field, where she shared experiences with prominent plastic surgeons like Dr. Sherel Aston in Manhattan, Dr. Ricardo Baroudi in Sao Paulo and Dr. Rómulo Mene in Rio de Janeiro. These centers include:

  • The Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital: Surgical training under the supervision of Dr. Sherrel J. Aston. Manhattan, New York, United States;
  • Hospital Saint Paul: Plastic surgery under the mentorship of the distinguished professor Dr. Ricardo Baroudi. Sao Paulo, Brazil;

  • National Cancer Institute: Under the mentorship of Dr. Pablo Leal. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil;
  • Plastic Surgery Service (Burns) of the Hospital Souza Aguiar: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil;
  • Plastic Surgery Service (Congenital Malformations) of the Hospital Municipal Nossa Senhora do Loreto: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil;
  • Plastic Surgery Service (Congenital Malformations) of the Hospital de Jesús: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

He published the book Tratamiento de Emergencia en Quemaduras (Emergency Treatment of Burns), which is a practical guide to solve basic problems of burn victims and is very useful for general practitioners and specialists. Likewise, he has published different press and magazine articles about plastic surgery procedures, both for the press and for specialized magazines of informative nature, addressed to the general public.

He is a member of the following medical and plastic surgery societies:
  • Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP)
  • American Academy of Aesthetic and Restorative Surgery (AAARS)
  • International Organization for Medical Education and Research (IOCIM).

El Dr. Spence has a Diploma in Advanced Philosophy granted by the Universidad Monteávila of Venezuela.

He is a professional radio and television presenter and has been a medical advisor to different television programs, including Sudando la Gota Gorda, a reality show broadcast by Venevisión that has broken rating records throughout several seasons.

As part of his personal formation, he studied fine arts. He graduated as a Plastic Artist from the Escuela Cristóbal Rojas of Caracas, Venezuela.

He also studied visual arts in New York, at the Art Students League of New York, under the tutorship of Professor Costa Vavagiakis.

He has held important individual exhibitions as an artist and is well-known and respected at the international level for his work in conceptual art and his gestural figurative painting.

He was a pupil of two of the greatest artists of Venezuela and Latin America: Professor Diego Barboza and Professor Roberto González, from whom he learned to develop the artistic language that distinguishes him.
